A large fire broke out around 1.30pm local time in the Coral Key area of Malindi in Kenya. Key Park and other adjacent areas have already been severely hit, and the Oasis is also suffering serious damage. The news is reported by the portal of the Italians in Kenya, malindikenya.net.
Numerous villas of Italians residing in the Kenyan town on the Indian Ocean coast were also affected. The fire seems to have started from the Oasis Village which is seriously damaged, but many cottages in the adjacent Key Park have also been destroyed. The Coral Key and Harbor Key appear to be safe, even the damage to the villas facing the road is contained. Firefighters are intervening on the site, arriving with an incomprehensible delay, about two hours after the flames broke out.
Meanwhile, the race of residents and other local activities has started to help and bring pumps that draw water from the pools, to save what can be saved and avoid the spread of flames from makuti to makuti (the typical thatched roofs of Swahili houses), in the villas of the structure and the nearby residential complexes.
