Reference News Network reported on May 10 that according to Kyodo News Seoul on May 10, the new South Korean President Yoon Seok-wook said on the same day that he hoped to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida as soon as possible to show his willingness to improve relations between the two countries.
According to the report, when meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Lin Fangzheng in Seoul, Yin Xiyue said that he hoped to cooperate with Japan to improve bilateral relations, and expressed his eagerness to conduct close communication with Japan for this purpose.
Lin Fang handed over a letter from Fumio Kishida to Yin Xiyue during the talks. He said the two countries must resolve the wartime labor issue to advance bilateral relations.
The report concluded that relations between Tokyo and Seoul had fallen to the lowest level in decades due to the wartime history.
