KPU Asked to Anticipate Surge in PSI Votes, DPR: Clarification as Soon as Possible

Bisnis.comJAKARTA – Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Ahmad Sahroni asked the General Election Commission (KPU) to immediately anticipate a surge in votes for the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) by manually counting.

“It would be a shame if this was not anticipated by the KPU as soon as possible, what? Manually,” said Sahroni when met at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Tuesday (5/3/2024).

Through manual counting, he said the KPU would be able to see problems and which areas experienced a significant increase in PSI votes. That way, said Sahroni, the KPU and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) will not be considered silent by the public.

According to Sahroni, political dynamics in every five-year election in the field always exist, so sometimes it is normal for there to be errors in inputting numbers.

However, he continued, the question is whether there is a significant increase in the number of votes, especially if the spike only occurs in the votes of one party.

It is hoped that Sahroni can take quick steps, both by the KPU and Bawaslu, not only if there is a surge in votes for one party in the 2024 elections, but also for all parties with the same concept.

“The point is that if there is a significant increase, it must be clarified as soon as possible,” he said.

Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Hadi Tjahjanto asked the public to wait for the results of the KPU’s calculations related to the surge in PSI votes.

“We’ll see the results from the KPU later,” said Hadi when visiting the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) office, Jakarta, Tuesday.

Hadi was also reluctant to respond to allegations of fraud in inflating PSI votes because the numbers had soared suddenly.

“Well, that has to be proven. It’s still an assumption,” he said.

Meanwhile, Member of the Indonesian KPU, Idham Holik, in Jakarta, Monday (4/3), emphasized that there was no inflation in the number of PSI votes.

Idham explained that what was inaccurate was optical character recognition (OCR) or technology that extracts text from images when reading photos of the C1-Plano Model Form or records of the 2024 Election vote counting results.

“Here the importance of active participation by accessing the Recapitulation Information System (Sirekap) is to convey that inaccuracies have occurred,” said Idham.
