LONDON. Thousands of British state school students will also be offered teaching of Latin. This is what the Ministry of Education has decided to make the language less “elitist”. The new curriculum, explained Minister Gavin Williamson, will therefore ensure that the teaching of Latin is not reserved only for the “privileged few”. Currently, Latin is taught in just 2.7 percent of state secondary schools, compared with 49 percent of private schools.
