At least twelve German soldiers from the Mali Stabilization Mission (Minusma) were injured yesterday morning in a suicide attack conducted against a temporary base near Gao, in central Mali. This was reported by the Armed Forces specifying, in a note, that three of the wounded are in “serious” conditions. The attack also led to the injury of a “blue helmet”, continues the note without specifying the nationality. In another attack, which took place in the village of Boni, also in central Mali, six Malian soldiers were killed and another was wounded. The military post they occupied was attacked from several fronts.
The German soldiers involved in the attack in the morning were boarded on a plane to Berlin where they will receive further medical assistance. The attack had been confirmed by Minusma, stating that the explosion of a car bomb driven by a suicide bomber against their base in Al Moustarat had caused several injuries. German security sources had added that the Minusma mission yesterday established the Al Moustarat base, located near the village of Ichagara, in the municipality of Tarkint, with the aim of remaining there the time necessary to guarantee a towing operation of a mission vehicle.
The bomb exploded as a Minusma convoy passed by escorting a Malian army battalion integrating former rebels who are now fighting into the forces of the Malian army, a practice in place since the 2015 peace agreement.
