LONDON. Other than freedom day. The “Freedom Day” of 19 July last not only did not bring independence from Covid to the United Kingdom, but is causing paradoxical, bizarre and potentially disastrous consequences. Some effects can already be seen: more and more empty shelves in supermarkets, shops and service stations that risk closing, entrepreneurs on the verge of a nervous breakdown due to the increasingly heavy lack of workers, health care that risks running out of nurses in sufficiency and a semi-paralyzed politics, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Health Minister Sajid Javid, Finance Minister Rishi Sunak and even the Labor opposition leader, Sir Keir Starmer, all confined to their own residences.
