“Miracle Aisha”: a Canadian doctor brings to light a little girl in flight

by admin

Not even the Canadian doctor who found herself delivering a baby girl in flight thought it could happen. “Thanks to the airline crew who helped support the birth of this ‘Miracle in the Air’! Mom and baby are fine! #Medicinadiviaggio”, Aisha Khatib wrote on her Twitter profile, still incredulous about the feat.

The woman was on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Uganda when the captain’s voice came on in the onboard speakers to ask if there was a doctor among the passengers.

A crowd of people had formed in the center of the plane, Dr. Aisha at first thought it was a heart attack. When she approached, she saw a woman, a Ugandan immigrant in Saudi Arabia who was returning to her country, lying in her seat about to give birth.

The doctor did not lose heart and together with an oncology nurse and a pediatrician from Doctors Without Borders who were on board, she helped the woman to give birth. Thus was born “Miracle” Aisha, a little early at 35 weeks of pregnancy, but healthy. With the name in honor of the doctor.
