Moscow, Communists take to the streets against fraud: “Putin is a thief”

“Digital voting is a threat to national security. Before our eyes, the ruling bourgeois elite in Russia is committing a serious violation of the law and the rights of the people.” This was stated by Denis Parfyonov, outgoing deputy of the Communist Party and secretary of the Moscow section, during the meeting with the voters in Pushkin Square. Thus continues the protest of the communists, great surprise of the elections of 19 September with their jump to almost 20 per cent, a result favored by the exclusion of the other most important opposition forces by the authorities.

A thousand people gathered to protest the fraud. “Putin is a thief! There was a colossal election fraud!” they shouted accusing the Russian president, whose United Russia party reached 49.8 percent. Among the demands expressed by the demonstrators was the recount and release of political prisoners, while others shouted the name of Alexei Navalyj, the famous opponent locked in prison.

Before the protest, the authorities arrested several activists, including Sergei Udaltsov, head of the radical socialist group Left Front. The police did not stop the demonstration but played loud music to distract the participants.
