MOSCOW – Two leading exponents of the NGO Memorial, Oleg Orlov and Svetlana Gannushkina, who turns 80 today, were arrested in Moscow. Orlov – to whom the Italian Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Benedetto Della Vedova spoke on the phone on Friday to express Italy’s solidarity with Memorial after the hours-long search of the organization’s offices – is part of Memorial’s Human Rights Council.
