During a meeting of a key NASA oversight committee on Thursday, committee member Sandra Magnus revealed that the private rocket company is targeting 52 launches in 2022, “It’s an unbelievable speed,” he said.
SpaceX accounted for about one-fifth of the world‘s successful orbital rocket launches last year, roughly on par with China.
The company has started the year with an average of once-a-week launches, having successfully launched three Falcon 9 rockets so far, with two more expected by the end of the month. In addition to the Falcon 9 rocket, SpaceX also plans to launch several Falcon Heavy rockets in 2022.
Magnus did not specify whether SpaceX’s planned 52 launches included test flights of its Starship prototype rocket.
