YANGON. Still 7 victims among the demonstrators protesting in Myanmar against the military junta that overthrew the power of Aung San Suu Kyi last February. According to reports from the Association for Assistance to Political Prisoners, the repression has hit mainly the western city of Kalay in the last hours, and three civilians who were not demonstrating have also been killed.
In all, according to the NGO’s estimates, the deaths since the beginning of the insurrection against the military are at least 217. Meanwhile, the military junta has also accused the former leader of corruption: up to now the accusations had been more general, but if the judges find her guilty of this crime, she will be excluded from the political life of the country. Arrested on February 1st and held in a secret place, Aung San Suu Kyi has so far been accused of illegally importing walkie-talkies, of not respecting the rules to fight Covid and of inciting protesters. Now she is accused of having received money from a controversial businessman, who confirmed this by speaking on TV.
