National Team Rises 7 Ranks in FIFA Ranking

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Indonesian National team is ranked 142nd in the FIFA ranking or up seven ranks after a year Erick Thohir be the leader PSSI.

Erick was officially elected as General Chair of PSSI for the 2023-2027 period at the PSSI Extraordinary Congress (KLB) in Jakarta which took place on February 16 2023.

After a year of Erick’s work, a number of achievements followed, including the Indonesian National Team winning the gold medal at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia after waiting for 32 years.

Apart from that, the Indonesian national team, for the first time in history, managed to qualify for the last 16 of the Asian Cup via the best third place ranking in the group phase.

Indonesia won one win and suffered two defeats in the group stage. The only victory was obtained after beating Vietnam 1-0.

Unfortunately, Indonesia’s progress stopped after losing 0-4 to Australia even though they performed quite impressively in the round of 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup. However, defeat in the knockout phase was not included in the calculation of FIFA ranking points.

In the latest official FIFA release, Thursday (15/2), Indonesia is currently in 142nd position in the world or up four positions or an increase of 8.65 points.

Indonesia’s FIFA ranking rose seven places when PSSI was led by Erick Thohir. Indonesia was in 149th position in the world when Erick just took over as Chairman of PSSI.

Erick didn’t want to be satisfied too quickly. Some time ago he said that PSSI was targeting Indonesia to reach the top 100 in the FIFA rankings.

“Thank God, position 142 in FIFA is not only the highest in the last five years, but also this year,” said Erick.

“Even though my target remains as soon as possible to reach 100 in the world, this is a process that proves that the program we are carrying out at PSSI, especially in preparing a competitive and quality national team, is on track,” added Erick.
