KATHMANDU. A Tara Air airline with 22 people on board, including 19 passengers and 3 crew members, disappeared today in the mountains of Nepal while flying on a popular tourist route: it took off from Pokhara airport at 9, 55 (local time) and was supposed to land in Jomsom at 10.20. The contacts, local authorities report, were lost a few minutes after take-off.
Police officer Ramesh Thapa points out that the searches are ongoing. The plane, which had taken off for a 15-minute flight to the city of Jomsom, in the Mustang district.
It has been raining in the area for a few days, but flights operate normally. It is a popular route with foreign hikers walking the mountain trails alongside Indian and Nepalese pilgrims visiting Muktinath Temple.
