Gary Neville e Roy Keane were two flags of the Manchester United of the 90s, one of the most iconic teams in English football. Under the guidance of Alex Ferguson they won everything. Years later they decided to launch serious accusations against Italian clubs during the show “The Overlap” on YouTube, where they recounted some episodes that led them to raise more than one suspicion about the use of doping substances of some Serie A teams faced in the European cups of that period.
Gary Neville said: “I think there were some teams we played against that weren’t clean, we said so at the time. I can’t name teams or players, but looking at what happened afterwards in cycling and with doctors… We were in good shape, but I left the field against an Italian team feeling destroyed and I thought something was wrong. I don’t want it to be an excuse, but something was wrong.”
Dose increased by
Roy Keane: “When I faced certain teams I was destroyed. But against a couple of Italian teams I looked at the players’ faces and it seemed like they hadn’t played the match.” Keane then spoke of other teams whose technical qualities made him doubt that they were not up to par: “Generally they were Real Madrid or Barcelona, no other team made me doubt whether I was good enough. Once in Barcelona I think I touched the ball four or five times, but in the warm-up. We just couldn’t get close to them. We lost 4-0 and we even considered ourselves lucky.”
During that period, Roy Keane and Gary Neville, with Manchester United, challenged several Italian teams. Juventus, in
