New infections surge in Japan or usher in a new wave of epidemics

According to data released by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, in the week ending on the 12th, the number of newly confirmed cases in Japan was 2.14 times that of the previous week.
Tokyo reported 16,878 new confirmed cases on the 13th, and the daily increase in cases exceeded 10,000 for two consecutive days, more than double the number a week ago. Okinawa, Kagoshima, and Wakayama prefectures reported the highest number of daily cases on the 13th.
Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Shigeyuki Goto said on the 13th: “It is expected that the number of new infections in many areas will continue to increase in the future, and I hope everyone will take basic epidemic prevention measures such as wearing masks.”
Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroichi Matsuno said on the 13th that no local government has applied for the implementation of key epidemic prevention measures and “does not consider restricting the flow of people.”
