New mass grave near Bucha: found seven bodies with their hands tied behind their backs

KIEV – The Ukrainian Attorney General has opened a war crimes investigation into the death of seven civilians found in a grave near a suburb of Bucha, in the Kiev region. During an investigation into positions previously occupied by the Russians in the forest near the village of Myrotske, authorities found “the bodies of seven civilians with gunshot wounds and their hands tied behind their backs”.

“The preliminary investigation was conducted by the Bucha District Department of National Police in the Kiev region.” Ukrainian national police yesterday said that across the country they are still trying to identify the bodies of 1,200 civilians.

“This is a long and painstaking process, because many bodies are in a state of putrefaction,” National Police Chief Ihor Klymenko told Interfax Ukraine. “We select the DNA from those relatives who contacted us through the hotline, then we compare the profiles of these relatives with the profiles of the dead, buried, shot, who have not been identified”.

Police are currently investigating the deaths of over 12,000 civilians across the country. In Bucha, the police chief said, a single mass grave with 116 people was found. Some mass graves were made by residents who collected corpses from the streets and buried them in nearby parks.
