Reuters said it was unclear which individuals or entities such sanctions would target. Tokyo will coordinate with other members of the Group of Seven (G7) nations, the officials said.
The U.S. Treasury Department said U.S. sanctions over Thursday’s incursion included 24 Belarusian individuals and entities.
A spokesman for Japan’s foreign ministry declined to comment. Reuters also could not immediately reach Fumio Kishida’s office for comment. The Epoch Times could not independently verify the news.
Japan has announced sanctions against Russia over the invasion. Fumio Kishida said Moscow’s move was an unacceptable violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and international law.
