North Korea warns US and South Korea will pay ‘heavy price’ for holding annual joint military exercises

North Korea denounces US-South Korea joint military exercises, warns of ‘high price to pay’

North Korea has strongly criticized the annual joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea, calling them “provocative” and “reckless.” The North Korean Ministry of Defense warned that the two countries will face a “high price” for their actions.

The “Freedom Shield” military exercise, which began on Monday and is scheduled to last for 11 days, aims to deter North Korea’s nuclear threats. The exercises will include live drills and constructive training to strengthen the alliance’s defense posture and cooperation in various areas such as air, land, sea, space, cyber, and special operations.

The spokesperson for the North Korean Ministry of Defense condemned the exercises as a large-scale war organized by nuclear-armed states against a country where a spark can lead to a nuclear war. North Korean forces have vowed to monitor any “adventurous acts” and carry out responsible military activities to control what they described as an unstable security situation.

Despite North Korea’s strong opposition to the drills, the US and South Korea are committed to enhancing their preparation against potential threats. The US Forces Korea stated that the exercise will aim to strengthen security and stability on the Korean Peninsula and throughout Northeast Asia.

While North Korea has previously criticized joint military drills between the US and South Korea, they have not yet made any official response to the current “Freedom Shield” exercises. The tensions between the countries remain high as the military exercises continue.
