Olympics, the ban on “afro” caps triggers protests from athletes

NEW YORK – The ban on the use of a swimming cap designed to protect the hair of African Americans in official competitions has sparked the protest of the black champions. And now Fina, the International Swimming Federation, is reconsidering the ban on wearing it. The product, called Soul Cap, was created in Great Britain in 2017 by two black entrepreneurs, Michael Chapman and Toks Ahmed-Salowudeen, to protect particularly thick and curly hair textures.
