OPEC has inaugurated 2022 by choosing “by acclamation” the next general secretary: it will be the Kuwaiti Haitham al-Ghais, a veteran of the oil industry, who will take the reins of the group starting from August, when the two consecutive terms will end by the Nigerian Mohammed Barkindo. A practice unmarked quickly, also due to the absence of other candidates, which will probably remain the only relevant event of this round of meetings of the Organization.
