According to a report on the UN website on the 24th, on the fourth day of the general debate of the UN General Assembly, Palestinian leader Abbas called on the UN Secretary-General to convene an international peace conference and said that to ensure that this initiative is not It will “go on indefinitely”, and Israel must withdraw from the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem within a year.
In a pre-recorded video speech, Abbas said that the initiative should “conform to the internationally recognized terms of reference and UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, and be carried out under the sole auspices of the Quartet of Peace in the Middle East.”

He also asked Secretary-General Guterres to “work on the basis of relevant UN resolutions on protection” to “take necessary steps to establish an international protection mechanism.” The mechanism should be “activated on the borders of occupied Palestine in 1967, including East Jerusalem.”
He explained: “In order to ensure that our initiative is not indefinite, we must declare that Israel, the occupying power, has one year to withdraw from the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967, including East Jerusalem. And we are prepared to be under the auspices of the Quartet and based on The United Nations resolution is committed to delimiting borders and resolving all final status issues throughout the year.”
He further stated that “the international community’s support for this initiative is in line with international law and United Nations resolutions, and may save the region from an unknown fate.”
Abbas said, “It is regrettable that the policies of the international community and the decisions of relevant UN agencies on the settlement of the’Palestinian issue’ have not yet been maintained and implemented.”
Abbas also mentioned that he is currently engaged in a “constructive dialogue” with the US government aimed at restoring Pakistan-US relations.
He said: “As far as Palestine is concerned, we will try our best to succeed in this endeavour to create conditions conducive to a speedy conclusion of a final political settlement and an end to Israel’s occupation of our country.”
However, he warned that Israel’s current and previous governments “have been circumventing a two-state solution based on international law and United Nations resolutions.”
He added: “Unilateral plans will not bring security and stability to anyone because they will undermine efforts to achieve true peace, prolong the occupation and consolidate the reality of an apartheid country.”
According to Abbas, “now is a critical moment” and the region is at a “crossroads.”
