Pedophilia, the Vatican opens the investigation into abuses in Spain thanks to the dossier delivered by “El País” to the Pope

It took the in-depth, meticulous work of a group of reporters from The country to break the wall of silence in the face of sexual abuse of minors committed by religious and lay people of the Spanish Church in recent decades. To avoid the risk of new cover-ups, the rich dossier – 385 pages detailing 251 cases referring to the period between 1943 and 2018 – was personally delivered to the Pope by the newspaper’s correspondent, the correspondent from Rome. Daniel Verdu, on the flight that carried the pontiff for the last mission to Greece and Cyprus, at the beginning of December.
