His name is Marcelino Abad, he is a 121-year-old Peruvian and was vaccinated in his home in a small village in the Andes, where he is known by the nickname of “Mashico”. The country’s health ministry reported this.

Born in 1900, Abad lives in the central region of Hua’nuco, in the municipality of Chaglla and received the first dose of AstraZeneca. To reach the man’s home, the vaccination team had to walk three hours along mountainous rural roads.

Abad is one of 5,000 elderly people vaccinated in the Hua’nuco region. In the last week, the vaccination campaign has accelerated, also thanks to the arrival in April of over 800,000 doses of Pfizer.

Peru surpassed one million vaccinated people on Friday, more than half of whom have already received the second dose.
