Peru: presidential candidate Castillo hospitalized for “respiratory failure”

by admin

LIMA- Pedro Castillo, left presidential candidate of the Perú libre party for the runoff on June 6 with the right-wing leader Keiko Fujimori (Fuerza Popular), was rushed to hospital last night in a Lima clinic for “respiratory problems” .
Via Twitter, the political group confirmed the transfer of Castillo to a hospital, announcing that “all activities scheduled for today are suspended”.

The newspaper La Republica recalls for its part that the winner of the first round of the presidential elections on 11 April last tested positive for Covid-19 in January and in March he was able to fully resume his proselytizing activity.

However, it indicates that yesterday Castillo was first transferred to a specialized laboratory to undergo a test regarding the coronavirus, and then was transferred to the La Luz Clinic in Lima.

A few hours before this incident, the two contenders in the ballot had agreed for a face-to-face debate tomorrow in Chota, the capital of the province of the same name in the region of Cajamarca.
After experiencing the sudden malaise of her challenger, the daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori limited herself to telling the media that she “hopes he will get well soon”
