Poland, the European Parliament sues the Commission: “The EU must protect the principles of democracy and the rule of law”

The President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, asked the legal service of the European Parliament to bring a lawsuit against the European Commission for not having suspended payments from the Community budget to Poland after the Warsaw ruling which decreed the primacy of the Constitution over European law.

This is the Regulation on the Conditionality of the Rule of Law adopted last December to allow the European Union to take action against a Member State where the rule of law is threatened.
