Pope Francis: If we want peace, let’s not forget the horrors of war

Peace is the greatest aspiration of millions of human beings: too many are threatened by war, forced to leave their homes, struck by violence. Yet this aspiration, so legitimate, is often trampled on or ignored. With the disappearance of the generation that lived through the Second World War, «we quickly forget the lessons of history, ‘teacher of life’» – I wrote in the encyclical Fratelli tutti.
