President Joko Widodo attended the peak of the 2024 National Press Day commemoration which was held on Tuesday, February 20 2024, at Ecoventional Hall, Ecopark, Ancol, North Jakarta. In his remarks, the Head of State expressed his appreciation for all members of the press in the country who have consistently accompanied the Indonesian people in democratic life.

“I also thank the press who took part in monitoring the 2024 General Election that we have just held,” said the President.

The President said that he really respects press freedom, freedom of expression and freedom of opinion in the country. Therefore, the President accepts all sharp criticism directed at him as a form of respect.

“I am also often criticized sharply, there are pictures of my unique, strange face on media covers, in magazines, on social media and there are lots of people, it’s strange, but that’s okay, there’s no problem for me. . “This is part of my respect for press freedom, freedom of expression and freedom of opinion,” said the President.

The President also left two messages to members of the press throughout the country. First, the President wants the press to remain one of the pillars of democracy and become a common home for clearing up information.

“Report the facts as they are but not making them up, not making assumptions, not as if they exist,” said the President.

Second, the President also hopes that domestic press companies can think about concrete and strategic steps. Apart from that, the President wants press companies to continue to innovate amidst global uncertainty.
