Prosecutor’s Office requests that Cristiani’s assets pass into the hands of the State – Diario La Página

“The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) has requested that 143 properties, 41 vehicles, 27 bank accounts, and a helicopter owned by former president Alfredo Cristiani be seized and handed over to the State. This action is part of an ongoing process that Cristiani has been facing since June of last year,” announced the prosecutor’s office.

According to investigations, Alfredo Cristiani incorporated large sums of money belonging to the State into his companies to hide and legitimize money laundering, resulting in an estimated gain of over 9 million dollars from these corrupt activities.

In June 2023, the attorney general, Rodolfo Delgado, revealed that the operation against the former president had already led to the seizure of properties, assets, and commercial companies worth more than $80 million, with ongoing investigations potentially increasing this figure.

Recent assets seized from Cristiani and his family group include a helicopter valued at 1.3 million dollars and cash worth $1.8 million. The former president is currently residing in Europe, where he sought refuge after being formally accused of participating in the murders of Jesuit priests and two Salvadoran women who were his employees.

The raids against Cristiani commenced after President Nayib Bukele declared a “war against corruption” and publicly accused Cristiani of being corrupt and causing significant damage to the country. The attorney general’s office posted the official request on Twitter, cementing the government’s determination to combat corruption and hold individuals accountable for their actions.
