Rapper Young Dolph was killed in a cookie shop in his hometown Memphis, Tennessee. Police said the shooting took place in Makeda’s Cookie, near Memphis International Airport. The killer is still on the run and there are currently no clues. Dolph had just returned to Memphis for two days to visit an aunt with cancer.
The 36-year-old rapper was born in Chicago as Adolph Thornton Jr. and moved to Memphis when he was 2, according to The Commercial Appeal. He has released several albums, that of his debut in 2016 “King of Memphis”. He has also collaborated with fellow rappers Key Glock, Megan Thee Stallion, TI, Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, and others.
Young Dolph has had three albums that hit the top 10 on the Billboard 200, with “Rich Slave” of 2020 which reached position no. 4. In his music, Young Dolph talked about being a drug dealer and life on the streets of Memphis.
He survived previous shootings. He was shot multiple times in September 2017 after a fight outside a Los Angeles hotel. In February of that year, his SUV was hit in Charlotte, North Carolina, more than 100 times; the fact inspired the song “100 Shots”. After the ambush he declared: “I survived because my car is covered with bulletproof sheets.”
The killing of the artist sparked emotions among fans, as happened in Los Angeles in 2019, when another rapper, Nipsey Hussle, was murdered.
