France Radio quoted a report from Alsat TV as saying that Kosovo announced a boycott of the Beijing Olympics. Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu supports the US decision to boycott the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Osmani’s news adviser, Beckin Kupina, told the media in the capital Pristina that due to the violation of human rights by the Chinese Communist Party, Osmani will join the boycott of the Beijing Olympics after the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom.

According to the report, the “diplomatic boycott” means that Kosovo athletes will participate in the Winter Olympics, but the President of Kosovo will boycott all official ceremonies and activities performed by the head of the delegation during the Beijing Olympics.

About Kosovo and Kosovo sports

According to Wikipedia, the Republic of Kosovo (Republika Kosovo), referred to as Kosovo, is a sovereign dispute area and limited recognition country. It is located in the Balkan Peninsula in southeastern Europe and unilaterally declared its independence in 2008. Although Serbia recognizes its democratically elected government, it only recognizes the region as one of Serbia’s two autonomous provinces (Kosovo and Metohija Autonomous Province).

Since the end of the Kosovo War in 1999, Kosovo has been only part of Serbia in name but in fact it is the trusteeship of the United Nations, under the temporary administration of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo.

In 2016, Kosovo participated in the Summer Olympics for the first time, which was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. On the second day of the competition (August 7th, Brazil time), Kosovo athletes won the women’s judo 52kg class event, becoming Kosovo’s first Olympic medal and first Olympic gold medal.
