Alexey Navalny was hospitalized in the prison hospital which is located about a hundred kilometers from Moscow, has already complained of severe back pain and temporary paralysis in one leg with high fever and cough. There is concern that it may be tuberculosis.
The Russian opponent is on the fifth day of his hunger strike. The news was confirmed by the prison service. His spokesperson Kira Yarmish stressed that Navalny has “numbness of the legs, high fever and cough, while several people in his unit have already been hospitalized for tuberculosis. The Russian opponent’s lawyer, Olga Mikhailova, reported learning of her transfer to the infirmary from the media; according to the lawyer, there are no doctors in the facility but only a paramedic. Navalny is on hunger strike to get adequate care after her health has deteriorated in recent weeks: she lost sensation in one leg and suffered severe back pain. Sources in the prison service denied reports of a tuberculosis epidemic in the Pokrov penal colony, arguing that if anyone close to Navalny became ill, the entire unit would be quarantined.
The dissident was arrested in January on his return to Russia from Germany, where he had spent months of convalescence due to an almost fatal poisoning, for which Navalny himself blamed the Kremlin. He is currently serving two and a half years on old fraud charges and probation violations.
