Saman’s uncle denies the murder charges. To the judge: “Has anyone seen me? Did I leave the house? “

PARIS. Danish Hasnain, the man accused of killing his niece Saman in Italy on 30 April, has denied the allegations. «It’s all false – he told the judge of the Chambre de l’Instruction of the Court of Appeal who notified him of the Italian extradition request – maybe someone saw me? Have I perhaps left the house? ».

Hasnain, who entered with handcuffs on his wrists, was dressed in a white sweatshirt and remained silent for the entire time the judge read him the accusations that are at the basis of Italy’s extradition request. Then an interpreter translated the magistrate’s words to him and he replied, as his faculty: «I take note of all this, but it is all false. It’s Saman’s father who said it was his uncle, that is me. I don’t understand how this mandate came about at Interpol level ». At this point the president of the Chambre de l’Instruction interrupted him: “this court does not judge on the merits,” she told him. At the end of the hearing, Hasnain signed the minutes and was re-handcuffed to be transported to the Fresnes prison, south of Paris, where he has been held since last week after his arrest in the Val d’Oise, in the banlieue.

“For me now the work begins”: these are the first words of Layla Saidi, who defends Danish Hasnain before the Court of Appeal in Paris. “As for the procedure of the European arrest warrant that was launched by Italy – she told some journalists who were waiting for her outside the courtroom after the hearing – on 20 October we must submit our arguments. It is necessary to understand whether or not this European mandate complies with international law, with international conventions. But also to the European law that unites France and Italy ». Is it possible that Hasnain will be extradited directly on October 20? “I don’t know, I can’t tell. We will submit our arguments ».
