Samantha Cristoforetti Space Station commander, first European woman

by admin

Astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti will be the first European woman to command the International Space Station (ISS), the third in the world after two Americans: it will happen during Expedition 68 which will see her in orbit in 2022. This was announced by the European Space Agency ( ESA).

Samantha Cristoforetti says she is “honored” by the appointment as reported in a note from the European Space Agency (ESA). “Returning to the International Space Station to represent Europe is an honor in itself,” says AstroSamantha. “I am honored to be appointed to the position of commander and look forward to drawing on the experience I have gained in space and on Earth to lead a very competent team into orbit.”
