Santa Fe and Tolima tie in a great match in El Campín

More than 29 thousand people in the El Campín stadium. Faced with the campaign of those led by Pablo Peirano, the Independiente Santa Fe fans responded and filled the sporting stage. The team now had to respond to a tough rival. David González’s Deportes Tolima, direct and one of the best performers in the BetPlay League.

Only four minutes passed and the visitors were already ahead on the scoreboard. Yeison Guzmán scored for Tolima after a bad rejection by John Meléndez that also dislocated the entire defense of the red team. The Tolima fans who were in the stadium were the ones who celebrated after the midfielder’s seventh goal in the League.

Before Tolima’s goal, Santa Fe had already had an option that they lost with Daniel Moreno against goalkeeper Chaverra. And after the score, the local team continued trying, but had errors in defense that almost caused Tolima to celebrate the second.

Junior Hernández took a deflected shot, but goalkeeper Juan Daniel Espitia, who replaced Andrés Mosquera, narrowed the angle and prevented the visitors from scoring. Later, it was Santa Fe that wasted again with options from Daniel Moreno, Daniel Torres and Juan Pablo Zuluaga.

Although Santa Fe did everything possible to have the ball and approach Chaverra’s goal with danger, Tolima had its best player in Guzmán and, at times, he became a thorn in the side for the locals, especially in the midfield in where he was the one who unbalanced the actions in favor of his team.

Second half: Draw in a great game

At minute 49, Independiente Santa Fe achieved the tie. Coach Pablo Peirano changed his structure from 5-3-2 to 4-3-3 with the entry of Jersson González and Elvis Perlaza for Jhon Meléndez and Diego Hernández. With that scheme, the team had more exit from the sides and had more of the ball.

With more control with the ball, the red team played more in the high zone and Tolima was forced to commit some fouls or send the ball to the corner kick. And thus equality arrived. A charge from Perlaza that went straight to the head of Hugo Rodallega, so that the scorer finally beat Chaverra. It was the turn to celebrate for those who filled El Campín.

After the goal, Santa Fe was about to come back through Rodallega himself, Jersson González and Zuluaga. Peirano made more changes, Daniel Torres replaced Jhojan Torres and Daniel Moreno replaced William Ovalle. González also made a replacement in his team, Fabián Mosquera and Alex Castro entered.

A few minutes later, Carlos Cortés and Cristian Trujillo also entered for Juan Pablo Nieto and Brayan Gil at Deportes Tolima. With these modifications, the visitors tried to have more recovery after a loss and give air to their midfield.

And it worked, Tolima was able to take a break from the pressure that Santa Fe had them under and give their forwards more mobility and space, while the locals lowered the block when they did not have the ball. Peirano brought on José Eric Correa for Yilmar Velásquez.
