A small plane crashed on the access to Pampulha airport, in Belo Horizonte (MG), this Wednesday (6). According to the Fire Department, two people were burned to death and another was rescued alive.

The accident aircraft is a Cessna 208B, a single-engine aircraft with capacity for nine passengers and two crew. According to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), the plane, prefix PR-AAB, is owned by the Federal Police.

According to the PF, federal police officers Guilherme de Almeida Irber and José Moraes Neto and mechanic Walter Luís Martins, from an outsourced company, were on the flight. The two police officers died at the scene, while the mechanic was taken to João XXIII hospital. According to the corporation, he “is in care, lucid and oriented”.

Images from cameras placed near the airport show the moment the aircraft approaches the ground. Then it hits the ground and a cloud of dust appears in the air.

According to the monitoring website Flightradar24, the plane took off from Pampulha airport at 2:14 pm and crashed a minute later. According to the tool, the aircraft reached an altitude of 2,950 feet, the equivalent of almost 900 meters, and then began a downward trajectory.

The fire caused after the accident has already been controlled and the aircraft is off the runway.

Still according to the FAB, the plane was manufactured in 2001 and was in normal airworthiness.

The Federal Police informed, in a note, that “it has already started an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident” and that “it will send experts in flight safety and air accidents in the next few hours to assist in the investigations”. The general director of the PF, Andrei Rodrigues, will also go to the site.

“The Federal Police sympathizes with the families and friends of the victims and declares three days of official mourning.”

The conclusion of the investigation will take as short a time as possible, always depending on the complexity of the incident and also on the need to discover possible contributing factors.
