Smart City, the memorandum of understanding signed between the Municipality of Padua and WINDTRE

The Municipality of Padua and WINDTRE have signed a memorandum of understanding, the first of this kind for the Municipality of Padua, with which the administration intends to open up to all interested parties the development of growth and training strategies, because the public administration knows how to address the challenges of the digital transition in an increasingly effective way.

The agreement is part of the strategy towards the smart city that the Municipality is launching through a series of working groups and collaborations with public and private entities, with the aim of increasing the technological skills of the administration and designing innovative services dedicated to citizens and businesses.

With the memorandum of understanding, Municipality of Padua and WINDTRE intend to exchange points of view on the potential of digital technologies so that, thanks to a long-term vision, ethically, environmentally and socially sustainable experiences in the telecommunications sector can arise, aimed at providing concrete answers to the growing need for digital services for the community. Specifically, the protocol provides for the establishment of a working group to verify the possibility of developing and implementing activities/initiatives of common interest in the areas: Smart City, Institutional Events, Education, Local Innovation Hubs. Participation at the table will not entail any financial burden for the parties.

WINDTRE supports local institutions to continue along the digital transition path towards the smart city, thanks to solutions for the optimization of intelligent mobility, the protection of the environment and the evolution of citizen services, with the aim of designing the digital and “green” transition of the municipal territory. Among the activities proposed by WINDTRE as part of the memorandum of understanding, the “Smart City Transformation Academy”, a digital education initiative dedicated to Public Administrations where issues related to the use of digital technologies to improve the environment and quality of life in cities.

The councilor with responsibility for the Digital Agenda Program and IT and Telematic Services Margherita Cera was present at the signing of the protocol together with the WINDTRE managers.

Francesca Chiocchetti, Director of Public Affairs at WINDTREhe claims: “We are proud to collaborate with the Municipality in the digital and sustainable transformation of the city. Padua is an important tourist destination and home to one of the largest industrial areas in Europe, as well as a logistics center of excellence such as the Interporto. In this context, WINDTRE aims to support the administration and the territory with advanced Big Data Analytics solutions, which allow studying mobility flows, in order to improve the management of traffic and urban transport services, not only in occasion of major events, but also in everyday life”.

The councilor with responsibility for the Digital Agenda Program and IT and Telematic Services Margherita Cera comment: “The digital transition must be seen as a strategic tool for the development of the city, but it is a challenge that must be faced in synergy, with the support and skills of partners and stakeholders. The signing of the protocol with WINDTRE is a result that contributes to fueling the innovation ecosystem in the city and aims to be the first of a series of collaborations that go alongside the work of the Council of Innovation, animated by the Chamber of Commerce and Universities, as well as to the other innovation actors in the city. This protocol is in fact part of the actions for the implementation of the Smart City, where we are putting in exchange various actions in synergy with the institutions and with the productive world of the city.”

The WINDTRE objectives

One of the ten concrete, measurable and business-integrated objectives of the WINDTRE sustainability plan is to put digital at the service of Smart Cities and design, together with local administrations, the urban and sustainable transformation of Italian cities to improve the environment, health and the quality of people’s lives. The company aims to achieve, by 2030, ambitious results within the three ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) dimensions and for years has been promoting solutions and projects aimed at accompanying the country towards a more sustainable and inclusive future with a quantitative and tangible and continuous results over time.
