MOGADISCIO. The director of Radio Mogadishu, Abdiaziz Mohamud Guled, a well-known critical journalist of the Islamist group al-Shabaab, was killed by a suicide bomber at the exit of a restaurant in the Somali capital. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack in which two other people were injured, the director of Somali national television and a driver.

“God bless my brother Abdiaziz Mohamud Guled, he was a brave man the nation lost,” Deputy Information Minister Abdirahman Yusuf Omar commented in a statement. “He left the restaurant and got into the car with a colleague after having dinner and the suicide bomber blew himself up on the car window,” said another colleague of the victim.

Abdiaziz Mohamud Guled was well known for his interviews with suspects from the jihadist group detained by Somali security forces and his programs were very popular, even outside Somalia.

Four people were injured in the attack. One of the injured was a director of Somali National Television, the station said in a tweet.
