Submarines, Biden-Macron: “Open talks between the allies would have avoided the crisis”

by admin

The announcement of the defense pact between the US, Great Britain and Australia would have benefited from “open consultations between allies”: this is what we read in a joint statement after the phone call between the US president, Joe Biden, and the French one, Emmanuel Macron. A clarifying conversation after the storm unleashed by the US-England-Australia geopolitical pact and the supply to Canberra of eight nuclear-powered submarines. The two heads of state therefore decided to launch “in-depth consultations to establish conditions that guarantee confidence and propose measures to achieve common objectives”.
Soon the French ambassador to Washington, Philippe Etienne, withdrawn in protest from France in recent days, will return to his headquarters. “Next week,” says the Elysée.
US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron “decided to meet in Europe at the end of October to reach agreement”. The Elysée made it known after the phone call between the two about the submarine crisis.
