Rabbiye said at the ceremony that the “Hussein Tantawi” is technologically advanced, equipped with the latest 3D bottom imaging and scanning systems, and control and safety systems. It is one of the largest dredgers in the Middle East and Africa. The dredger will provide a stronger guarantee for the development of the Suez Canal and against potential risks.

According to reports, like the dredger delivered to the Suez Canal Authority in April, the “Hussein Tantawi” was also built by a Dutch shipyard. It is 147.4 meters long, 23 meters wide, and has a maximum operating depth of 35 meters. 29,000 kilowatts.

The heavy cargo ship “Longci” flying the Panamanian flag ran aground on the new channel of the Suez Canal on March 23, causing a blockage of the channel. After several consecutive days of rescue, the stranded freighter successfully lifted off on March 29. The Suez Canal Authority stated in May that the southern section of the Suez Canal has begun dredging operations in order to widen this section of the waterway and enable it to have two-way navigation capabilities.
