Suez Canal: unblocking possible today after dredging

by admin

The Suez Canal Authority has announced the end of dredging operations and the start of towing maneuvers of the Ever Given container ship which has been blocking the important maritime connection between Asia and Europe since Tuesday. But he warned that this is a complex procedure that involves several attempts, which could also fail.

“The head of authority”, the admiral Osama Rabie, “announced the start of towing maneuvers of the stranded ship through nine giant tugs headed by ‘Baraka 1’ and ‘Ezzat Adel'”, reports a post published last night on the Authority’s Facebook page. This, it is added, “after the end of the dredging operations around the bow of the ship carried out by the dredger ‘Mashour'”.

Meanwhile, the number of ships blocked in and around the Canal due to grounding has risen to at least 276. There are 107 boats heading south, 42 parked in the “Great Bitter Lake” and 127 attempting to reach the Mediterranean, to the north. This is what emerges from a tweet published around seven this morning by a company providing services for the channel, Leth Agencies.
