Taiwan enters the winter with the strongest cold air on weekends to report to the mountains to have a chance to snow | Air Conditioning Group | Wu Derong

[Epoch Times December 22, 2021](Epoch Times reporter Lin Zixin reported from Taipei, Taiwan) Wu Derong, an associate professor of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Central University, said on the 22nd that there will be the strongest wave of cold air going south in winter on the 25th (Saturday). It may reach the intensity of a strong mainland air mass. The lowest temperature on the plains of northern Taiwan can drop to about 11 degrees Celsius. It will be the coldest on the 26th and 27th (Sunday and next Monday), and there will be opportunities for snow in the mountains.

Wu Derong said that on the 23rd (Thursday), there were still some short-term rains in the northern and eastern half, and other areas were cloudy and sunny, and the temperature rose slightly. On the 24th (Friday), the western half of the day was cloudy and sunny, while the eastern half was partially short-lived. Rain, the northeast monsoon gradually strengthens in the evening, and the rain turns in northern Taiwan.

Wu Derong pointed out that the latest model simulation showed that on the 25th (Saturday) the strong cold air moved southward, and the temperature dropped sharply. On Monday, the temperature will drop to the lowest point of this wave, and the lowest temperature on the flat land will be 8 degrees; the cold air will gradually weaken and the temperature will gradually rise during the day on the 28th (next Tuesday).

Wu Derong said that although the latest model simulations of various countries are different, they all show that they are the strongest wave since the beginning of winter, and they have crossed the threshold of “strong continental cold air mass” (10 to 12 degrees at Taipei Weather Station), and some models have even reached the threshold. The intensity of the “cold current” (the Taipei weather station has not reached 10 degrees); however, the model will continue to be adjusted in various countries and should be continuously observed. In addition, Wu Derong mentioned that snowfall in high mountains can be expected, but due to differences in the intensity of model simulations and water vapor distribution in various countries, the adjustment of each model should be continuously observed.
