Taliban asks to participate in the UN General Assembly and speak to the world | China News | Al Jazeera

The UN spokesperson stated that the secretary-general of the organization received a letter from the Taliban signed by Amir Khan Mutaki, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, requesting to attend the 76th UN General Assembly and to the world this week Leaders of various countries delivered speeches.

The UN spokesperson added that the letter stated that Mohammed Suhail Shaheen had been appointed as Afghanistan’s new permanent representative to the United Nations in New York.

The United Nations Credentials Committee is composed of Russia, China, the United States, Sweden, South Africa, Sierra Leone, Chile, Bhutan and the Bahamas.

The Deputy Minister of Information of the Afghan Caretaker Government Zabiullah Mujahid called on the international community to recognize the new government and interact with the new government in accordance with international standards.

At a press conference held in the capital Kabul, Mujahid affirmed all the Taliban’s efforts to bring peace to Afghanistan and called on the international community to extend a helping hand to the Afghan people.

Mujahid reiterated that the current government is a caretaker government and expressed his efforts to include talents and cadres from different races, seeking to improve political performance to win the trust of the people.

Diplomatic move

At the same time, Caretaker Prime Minister Mullah Mohammed Hassan Ahund received special envoys from Russia, China and Pakistan in Kabul.

Amir Khan Mutaki, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Hedayala Badri, Acting Minister of Finance and other officials attended the meeting.

This is the first meeting between special envoys of these countries and Taliban government officials since the Taliban movement took control of Afghanistan and announced the formation of a government.

The Acting Foreign Minister also met with Qatar’s Ambassador Said Mubarak Hayalin in Kabul. The two sides discussed related issues in the two countries and the future of the situation in Afghanistan.

Khan Mutaki praised Qatar’s efforts and cooperation, especially its efforts in the re-operation of Kabul Airport.
