A Taliban spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and another spokesperson could not be contacted immediately.

Some Afghan journalists disclosed that since the Taliban took control of the capital Kabul on Sunday, they had been beaten and their homes were searched.

Deutsche Welle said the Taliban raided the residences of at least three of its reporters.

The head of the United Nations cultural agency, UNESCO (UNESCO), urged the Taliban on Friday to guarantee freedom of speech and the safety of journalists in accordance with international obligations.

Reuters reported that a German government spokesperson said on Friday that a German civilian was shot while on his way to the Kabul airport, but he was not life-threatening and would soon be taken away from Afghanistan.
