Three researchers from the Chinese Institute of Virology in Wuhan, according to the online edition of the Wall Street Journal, became seriously ill with Covid-19 in November 2019 so much that they needed hospital treatment. The news is contained in a previously undisclosed US intelligence report that could add weight to growing calls for a more comprehensive investigation into whether the virus may have escaped the lab. The details of the report go beyond a State Department fact sheet, issued during the last days of the Trump administration, according to which several researchers at the lab, a center for studying coronaviruses and other pathogens, fell ill in the fall. 2019 “with symptoms compatible with both Covid-19 and a common seasonal disease”.
