The Ethiopian army has launched the “final offensive” on the Tigray, the rebels denounce

by admin

ADDIS ABEBA – The federal military has launched a ground offensive against Tigray rebels, according to Twitter Getachew Reda, the spokesperson for the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (Tplf). Addis Ababa did not reply or comment. “On the morning of today 11 October, the Ethiopian federal army, with the support of the Amhara forces, launched an offensive on all fronts”, writes Reda in the two-page statement entitled “Press statement on the offensive ‘finalè di Abiy to the people of Tigray “.

“The offensive threatened by has officially begun Abiy Ahmed to reinvade Tigray, “he writes. The Tigrinya official repeatedly stresses the unheard call of the international community and the Tigray government for a peaceful resolution of the conflict that began in November. Tigrinya’s will to end the conflict has always been conditioned to certain requests, considered “unacceptable” by Addis Ababa, such as the independence of the region. The tones on Twitter on both sides have always been belligerent. Abiy has cataloged Tigrinya officials as “terrorists” by attacking them with the help of Amhara forces and Eritrea, and the Tigrinya government invaded the two neighboring regions of Amhara and Afar.

According to the Tplf, according to the words of Reda, Abiy in June would have withdrawn only temporarily from Tigray to strengthen, multiply and acquire more weapons for “the final offensive”. Since June the Tigrinya army has recaptured most of the territory except the western part of the Tigray, still in the hands of the feds.

Tigrayans demand that all military forces present, including foreign ones, withdraw from Tigray: They appeal to the international community to intervene with sanctions and punitive measures, “not just with gossip”. “Since Addis Ababa wants to bring us to our knees, we are ready to defend ourselves – writes Reda – against the genocidal forces, until they come to their senses by choosing a path of peace”

Tigray has been in conflict with the federal government since last November, when the Ethiopian prime minister sent the army to the region to remove local authorities accused of organizing attacks on government military posts.

The hostilities had ceased for a few months, after the rebels had regained control of the region and the government forces had withdrawn in late June. The fighting subsequently extended to the neighboring regions of Afar and Amhara.
