NEW YORK. The marathon returns to New York. This was announced by New York Road Runners, the organization that organizes the race. The 50th edition will be held on 7 November after it was canceled last year due to the pandemic. However, it will have a capacity of 60%, with about 33,000 participants instead of the 55,000 of the last year. The short-form marathon was decided in collaboration with the state of New York and the New York City Administration.

«In 2019 – said Governor Andrew Cuomo – he broke the record by becoming the largest marathon in the world. Canceling the race in 2020 was the right choice and we are thrilled to welcome the riders back to our city ». The announcement comes at a time when New York State is phasing out anti-Covid restrictions. From next May 19th, most of the activities will return to 100% operations. Since May 17, the obligation to wear a mask indoors for the vaccinated has lapsed, the New York subway works again continuously. Furthermore, Cuomo has also announced that on June 19th, after more than a year of closure, the iconic Radio City Hall will reopen 100% to host the final evening of the Tribeca festival.
