The report shows: Facebook, Twitter and other social media have become “anti-Semitic hotbeds”-Social-SNS Social Network

by admin

A latest report shows that Western social media giants have become a distribution center for anti-Semitism speech, and there are “serious and systematic failures” in dealing with anti-Semitic speech, making it a “hotbed of racism.”According to the British “Times” report on the 2nd, social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube have a large number of anti-Semitic propaganda and hate posts. However, these platforms have not taken any measures against 84% of the posts.

Especially on Facebook and Twitter, 90% of anti-Semitic posts still exist regardless of complaints.

Earlier this year, the UK-based non-profit organization Center for Anti-Digital Hate (CCDH) flagged 714 anti-Semitic posts and fed them back to the platform. These content involving Nazis and white supremacy received up to 7.3 million views. After 6 weeks, CCDH staff checked and found that although these posts obviously violated the publishing policy, less than one in six people deleted posts or closed their accounts after being warned by the platform.

According to the British “Guardian”, the report called “Ineffective Protection” pointed out that these platforms are particularly weak against anti-Semitic posts, including misinformation linking Jews to the new crown pneumonia epidemic. Some denials of the Nazi Holocaust are also almost unconstrained. As the “most serious platform for violations,” Facebook introduced stricter anti-Semitic content guidelines last year, but only took measures against 10.9% of anti-Semitic posts. Ironically, the founder of Facebook, Zach Burke, is of Jewish descent.

According to the report, Twitter’s action is also very poor. It only deleted or closed 11% of posts or accounts, and did not take any action on hashtag topics that deny the Holocaust or exist anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. Instagram also did not take action against anti-Semitic and inciting violent videos against Jews. On the US video site YouTube, 41 videos with hateful Jewish content can still be played. These videos have received 3.5 million views in an average of 6 years. The report recommends that financial penalties be imposed on these platforms, and strengthened training and support to encourage the platforms to increase their supervision. Social media should also delete groups that promote anti-Semitism and close accounts that directly send racist content to platform users.
