On the afternoon of September 29th, local time, the election of the president of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan conducted voting and balloting. The results of the first round of elections showed that Fumio Kishida and Taro Kono received the highest number of votes, but none of them won more than half of the votes. They will enter the second round of voting for the final competition.

Four candidates were selected for the Liberal Democratic Party presidential election. They are former Minister of Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida (64 years old), Minister of Administrative Reform Taro Kono (58 years old), former Minister of General Affairs Sanae Takaichi (60 years old), and Acting Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party. At 1 p.m. local time, the voting was conducted at a hotel in Tokyo. In the first round of voting, there were a total of 764 votes, including one member of the Senate and House of Representatives of the Liberal Democratic Party, which counted 382 votes; and the number of party members and friends counted 382 votes. Out of a total of 764 ballots, 2 are invalid and 762 are valid. In the first round of voting, Taro Kono received a total of 255 votes, Fumio Kishida received a total of 256 votes, Sanae Takaichi received a total of 188 votes, and Seiko Noda received a total of 63 votes.

According to the Liberal Democratic Party’s presidential election rules, in the first round of voting, more than half of the valid voters shall be selected as the new president of the Democratic Party.
