Reference News Network reported on November 17 According to a report from the Russian Satellite News Agency on November 16, the US Space Command said that the target of the Russian anti-satellite system test seems to be a Soviet-era satellite.

A statement issued by the command’s official website stated: “Russia tested a direct-rising anti-satellite missile on November 15 and hit the Russian satellite’Cosmos 1408′. The debris was scattered in low earth orbit.”

The statement said this was an act of ignoring space security. The statement also pointed out that the anti-satellite system developed by Russia has made it more difficult for the United States and its allies to use space, undermined strategic stability and brought threats.

According to reports, the US Space Command previously said in April that Russia had tested anti-satellite missiles. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zakharova pointed out at the time that Washington tried to use this method to justify the country’s deployment of weapons in space.

The report pointed out that the United States and other countries are also developing such weapons. For example, in 1985, the US F-15 fighter jet launched ASM-135 missiles and destroyed a national scientific satellite; in 2008, the US used ship-borne “Standard-3” missiles to destroy a military satellite 247 kilometers above the ground.
