The United States has passed further sanctions against Iran for “grave human rights violations”. This was announced by the US Treasury Department, which has included new names of individuals and entities in the blacklist of those sanctioned. The move comes while awaiting the resumption of indirect negotiations between the US and Iran in Vienna on Thursday to return to full compliance with the nuclear deal.
The new measures affect a total of 15 people and four entities in Iran, Syria and Uganda. For the Islamic Republic, the sanctions, among others, affect the special anti-terrorism forces, the Iranian prison system and its leaders and Gholamreza Soleimani, a high-ranking officer of the Basij paramilitary forces.
